Sydney by Sail’s Mile Builder programs are offered on a brand new 50 foot performance cruising model called an Elan E6.

Starting from our base in Darling Harbour, we’ll set sail northward, chasing the sun towards Coffs Harbour, before making a brief stop in Southport for some well-deserved rest and relaxation. From there, we continue on to Mooloolaba, pass Fraser Island and the Keppel Islands, and navigate through the breathtaking 100 miles of the Whitsunday Islands, concluding the two-week journey at Hamilton Island, nestled in the heart of the tropical Whitsundays.
No matter the weather forecast, you can expect a variety of sailing conditions and navigational challenges along the way. The passage can take 7 – 10 days, although 16 days are scheduled so we can spend time in sheltered anchorages if need be. Keep an eye out for whales, dolphins & sharks!

Hamilton Island Race Week is one of Australia’s premier yachting events, set in the stunning Whitsunday Islands. Known for its perfect trade wind sailing conditions, it’s a must-attend for sailing enthusiasts. The program kicks off with two days of race training, giving crews the chance to get familiar with the boat, their roles, and build team cohesion before the regatta begins. Training includes spinnaker handling, trimming, and helming techniques.
The regatta runs as a day event, with racing typically from 10 am to 5 pm, featuring short island races throughout the week, plus a lay day for shore activities. Expect fantastic sailing conditions with fresh trade winds, crystal-clear waters, and beautiful beaches, along with sightings of dolphins, whales, and dugongs.
After sailing, Hamilton Island offers plenty of dining and entertainment options to enjoy. Don’t miss out on this flagship event – book early!

Embark on a thrilling mile-building adventure as we sail south from Hamilton Island, traversing the stunning Whitsunday Islands before heading towards Mooloolaba. After a brief stop in Southport to unwind, we’ll continue on to Coffs Harbour and then make our way back to Sydney Harbour. Over the course of two weeks, you’ll experience a variety of sailing conditions and navigational challenges, making this journey a perfect opportunity to sharpen your skills. Watch for whales, dolphins, and the occasional shark or turtle along the way!
Starting from the tropical warmth of the Whitsundays, we’ll gradually sail into cooler temperatures as we head south, likely benefiting from the prevailing south-east Trade winds that make for ideal downwind sailing.
This adventure will be guided by a friendly, experienced and qualified instructor aboard a high-quality vessel, ensuring you receive expert guidance throughout the journey.
The passages from Sydney – Whitsunday’s and back include accommodation and meals on the yacht, fuel, consumables, marina fees, safety equipment, professional sail training tuition, and relevant paperwork/publications.
Wet weather clothing is available for loan if needed. Please note that you will be dining ashore for a couple of nights at your own expense.

Accommodation
Our pricing does not cover accommodation on board the yacht. We recommend booking a room in one of the many hotels/resorts available on Hamilton Island.
No formal qualifications are required, but we do suggest that passengers have some previous sailing experience. For best practice, students should undertake our International Skipper Package first.
