96 of these yachts completed the entire distance, with the final boat, Freyja, arriving on New Years day (an11-metre wooden ketch, built in 1945)

One day and 9 hours after departing Sydney, Wild Oats XI took line honours to win its ninthtitle, beating Comanche who crossed the line almost half an hour later….. but all was on hold as Comanche threat to lodge a protest over a near collision at the start of the race.

Soon after this protest, it was announed with Comanche taking line honours after Wild Oats XI was penalised by an hour for breaking race rules, they were penalised 1 hour. They were found to have breached the rules over a tacking manoeuvre at the start in.

Comanche crossed the line in second place nearly 27 minutes after Wild Oats XI, hence the hour penalty put them in winning place

Comanche now holds the new race record of 1 day, 9 hours, 15 minutes and 24 seconds — just over four hours faster than the record set by Perpetual Loyal last year!
